Adapting Indian Head Massage for the Elderly and Frail

Indian Head Massage can be adapted as a gentle and supportive therapy for elderly and frail people.       

This one day advanced Indian Head Massage training course for qualified Indian Head Massage therapists is accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) for 5 CPD points. The day offers the opportunity for qualified therapists to experience the benefits of using gentle and appropriate techniques with elderly and frail people.

Course content:

  • Benefits of adapted Indian Head Massage for elderly and frail people.
  • Discussion of relevant contraindications and cautions for Indian Head Massage.
  • Practical aspects of offering Indian Head Massage in hospitals, hospices and care homes.
  • Appropriate use of oils with elderly and frail people. When to use oils and when to massage through clothes.
  •  You will learn and practice two simple routines which has been successfully used in nursing homes and hospices, and also on elderly people in their own homes. The routines include holds, gentle stroking and gentle kneading. You will be encouraged to adapt your own routine and be creative with new moves.
  • There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and learn from others experiences.
  • Discussion of personal experiences and case studies of working with Indian Head Massage in hospices and nursing homes.

There is a practical element to this one day Indian Head Massage course so be prepared to relax and enjoy a soothing treatment. Participants will be awarded a certificate of attendance as evidence of CPD for your portfolio. (FHT accredits the course with 5 CPD points)
