What prompted you to train in complementary therapy?
We had both been aware for some time that we needed to make changes to our lifestyles – we were both suffering from ‘work related’ stress. I received a Reiki treatment in February 2005 and felt immediately more peaceful and enrolled on a First degree Reiki course that April. Zena received her first Reiki treatment that evening and enrolled on a course three months later.
What therapies do you currently practice?
We are now both Master Teachers in Usui Tibetan and Karuna ® Reiki. We run courses at all levels and have a very active monthly sharing circle where we get together with our students and new friends to exchange experiences and ‘brush up’ on techniques.
Recently we have both qualified as ‘Reiki Drum’ practitioners, proving very effective for a range of client issues. We have a dedicated treatment room at our home but we can also travel to clients’ homes where circumstances dictate.
Describe one time when you felt that complementary therapy had really made a difference to someone.
We both have clients who have come to us, barely able to function, and who have turned their lives around and are, once again, fully active at work and in the community.
Can you share any holistic tips that have worked for you?
Intention! We cannot over emphasise that you need to be focussed on your client during the treatment and have a clear intention of what you want to achieve.
What path are you hoping to follow in the future?
We have distanced ourselves from the ‘pamper’ type of treatment and focus on ‘healing’ with conditions ranging from depression, and neurological disorders to chronic pain and fatigue.
