Reflections on Volunteering at the Women’s Centre, Dunkirk Refugee Camp

I’m just back from a week volunteering as a massage therapist and general helper at the Women’s Centre in Dunkirk Refugee Camp. The whole experience was made even more meaningful because it was supported by friends and family, and shared with Sue Cooper, a fellow therapist with a very generous heart. Gentle and Nurturing Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage using gentle techniques is becoming increasingly popular in clinical and palliative care settings. A caring and nurturing touch on the back, head and face can bring great comfort to frail and elderly clients. Indeed, many Indian Head Massage therapists are now adding more gentle techniques to their sessions with regular clients as a way of enhancing relaxation and stress-relief. Update on Cocoro’s Work in Japan

Many of you will know about my involvement with Cocoro, a Japanese charity providing long-term aromatherapy and positive touch activities for the adults and children affected by the Japanese tsunami.  The charity was founded by Japanese aromatherapist, Takiko Ando (below), and continues to offer much-needed emotional support for the victims who are still trying to come to terms with the devastating effects of the disaster. Latest News from Cocoro Charity in Japan

Four years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011, killing more than 15,000 people. Since May 2011, Cocoro charity has been working at Rikuzentakata and Ofunato, cities devastated by the tsunami, to offer aromatherapy services as part of mental health care for the victims. Over the past four years, we have provided aromatherapy support for more than 1096 people. in Aril 2012, I was honoured to be invited to be part of the team of therapists working in the disaster area.
