The Art of Indian Head Massage Training

Indian Head Massage is joy to give and receive. So if you are thinking of training in a new therapy, then do take a look at comments from clients of therapists who have trained with me.

“Indian Head Massage is just heaven. I really look forward to my regular sessions. It is my time, just for me. My therapist makes me feel really well looked after and I always leave feeling so much better.”

“I’ve been having Indian Head Massage every week for over year now.  I was given a voucher for my 80th birthday and enjoyed it so much that it is now part of my weekly routine. My therapist visits me in my home and always adapts the therapy to how I am feeling. It makes me feel special.”

“Since having Indian Head Massage, I feel far less stressed. I have stopped worrying about the little things – and now enjoy life much more. I’m less of a nag to my husband and children too!”

Training in Indian Head Massage

Adaptable and versatile, Indian Head Massage makes an excellent additional therapy to any practice. It is suitable for on-site corporate work, and the public to receive at health fairs and similar events. It is an ideal therapy to introduce clients to the benefits of complementary therapy and can be adapted to suit the needs of elderly. There are a variety of different Indian Head Massage courses around the country but it is important to check that the course is:

  • Fully accredited so that you can gain insurance to practice.
  • Lasts three days with additional support if necessary. Three days are necessary in order for you to gain confidence and really enjoy giving the therapy.
  • Requires case studies (that’s a total of ten treatments) in order to gain a qualification.
  • Offers on-going support and advice.

Indian head Massage course

The course is valued by students as the classes are small and the atmosphere is very friendly and supportive. The days are flavoured by many years of experience in practising and teaching Indian Head Massage in a variety of settings since my book The Art of Indian Head Massage was published in 2000.

Other options for Indian Head Massage Courses

  • As classes are small, it may also be possible to arrange dates to suit you.
  • The course can be delivered to suit a small group of therapists if you can organise the venue.
  • Please contact me and so can discuss these options further.

Course Content

The course covers all the essential practical and theoretical knowledge necessary to offer a safe, effective and appropriate treatment to a wide range of clients. It is an invaluable addition to any therapies currently practised and an excellent treatment to take into the workplace.
The course teaches the European Approach to Indian Head Massage whilst offering learners an insight into the history and traditional techniques still practised in India today. Some new techniques have been added since Mary trained in Ayurveda in Goa.

During my courses, great emphasis us placed on self-care of the therapist and offer a supportive and friendly learning environment making each day fun as well as productive. We will be required to complete 10 case studies (that’s ten treatments in total). Full support will be offered to help you complete these.

Topics covered include:

  • The history of Indian Head Massage,
  • Benefits and Contra-indications
  • Hygiene and Safety
  • Indian Head Massage techniques
  • Oils for Indian Head Massage
  • Stress Management
  • After-care advice
  • Self-Care for Therapist
  • Documentation including consultation forms and treatment records
  • Assessment is by written evidence of 10 treatments plus a practical demonstration of techniques and a written multiple choice paper.

Classes are kept to small numbers to ensure friendly and informative learning which is ideal for the more mature student or for those lacking the confidence to learn in a large group. There is on-going support following the course.

“The course is inspiring….we packed so much into three days. I came away with confidence and enthusiasm. Highly recommended.”

“It was just wonderful. All so relaxed yet we learnt so much. I am already booked into two more of Mary’s courses.”

“What a wonderful three days. Mary and Jo are brilliantly thorough, but makes it fun and very supportive in the process.”
